## [Good Hair Day = A Good Day](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/08/29/good-hair-day-a-good-day/)

Today was an exceptionally good day. See, I told you all I needed was a normal amount of sleep. I’m human again!

My day went as follows…

I’ve been growing my hair long for years now; and since I have a lot of it, I usually wear it up in a bun. So sexy, right?

Well, the girls in [my hair cult](http://www.naturallycurly.com) are gonna love this one…

So today while I was at work, I let my hair down for a while because my bun was too tight. I wasn’t making a big production out of it at all. In fact, I thought I was being pretty incognito about it.

I was in a pretty relaxed mood today, so I just let my hair fly and be its naturally
 fluffy self.

I was stunned by the number of compliments I got on my hair today! I suppose it was an utter shock to my co-workers since they’re used to seeing my hair always slicked back and neatly tucked away.

Maybe they thought I didn’t even have hair at all.

**But the comment that made my day was:**

“You have AWESOME hair. Why don’t you wear it out more often? It’s beautiful!”

To a girl like me who has a serious hair fetish and is always playing in her hair, that’s like the ultimate compliment. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Am I bragging? Maybe.

But after the past few days that I’ve had, just indulge me a little.

## [Food for Your Mood](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/08/11/food-for-your-mood/)

In the Bible, Ecclesiastes 2:24 says:

“A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God.”

And verse 8:15 says:

“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.”

I couldn’t agree more.

As long as I have my food and work to do, I’m straight. But take even one of them away, and I turn evil.

If anyone reading my blog is discontented, frustrated, or bummed about your lot in life - dry your tears. Instead, go enjoy a good meal and do something useful and worthwhile.

Anything beyond food and being productive is the icing of life…not the cake.

## [So… About that Earthquake…](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/08/11/so-about-that-earthquake/)

Sorry to keep my fans waiting with bated breath for my next dessert recommendation, but I’ve been busy.

Busy doing what, you ask?

Oh, just having my bed slide across my room (with me in it) in an earthquake earlier this week and thinking that it was all in my mind until I saw the L.A. news in the morning.

But here’s the thing…

Since I am originally from the east coast, I am much more sensitive and keenly aware of ripples and rolling and shifting action that happens underneath me.

For the past week or so, I’ve been feeling the floor sway almost every day. I know better than to say, “Did you feel that?” to anyone, because everyone here laughs at such a question and acts as if random rocking is business as usual. Their typical response is, “No, you’re just imagining it… I didn’t feel a thing.”

Which led to my believing I was going (even more) insane the other night.

So yeah, I’ve been preoccupied.

But dang, I wanted to believe I finally lost my marbles.

I seriously need some R&R.

All I want to do is go to [my yoga class](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/03/18/best-yoga-instructor-bryan-kest/) in the a.m., get a mango smoothie from
Jamba Juice afterwards, and head down to the beach in Santa Monica with my towel and swimsuit and call it a day.

I don’t want to blog about trinkets.

I don’t want to “have to be” somewhere.

I don’t want to hear about world crises.

I don’t need to know the drama du jour from Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears or
 Nicole Ritchie.

**Nuh-uh. Not today.**

The only words I’ll accept right now are the 4 S’s: smoothie, swimsuit, sun and seafood. Oh, and one more…sweets.

Finito.

## [The Multiple “You” - Step into Another Reality!](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/07/25/the-multiple-you-step-into-another-reality/)

I am fascinated with the concept of parallel universes, or multiple realities.
One of my favorite books on the subject is Parallel Universes of Self, by
 Frederick E. Dodson.

I have practiced the techniques in this book and have been amazed at what I’ve discovered. It’s kinda freaky stuff, but my overactive imagination loves it! It is interesting, to say the least. You may never look at life the same way after you
read this book. It takes the “act as if” concept to a whole other realm…literally.

Springing from quantum physics, and featured in science fiction, the
“Parallel Worlds Theory” is an earth-shattering revision of our understanding of reality.

It says, simply, that everything that can happen does. Universes branch and branch in time, one for every alternate possibility. Far more than an intellectual exercise, the parallel universe principle can be applied in personal reality and everyday life.

You can “create” your reality by becoming the parallel-world version of yourself for whom the experience you want is already real. This is your roadmap, your guidebook, to Parallel Universes of Self.

## [HELP! I Can NOT Stop Saying “Like”](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/07/18/help-i-cant-stop-saying-like/)

I’ve skated by for a while now without coming clean with this, but I suppose it’s time to ‘fess up: I now officially sound like a Valley Girl.

Yes, yes - it’s true. Moving to Southern Cali from the east coast a few years ago has finally done a number on me. It has fully taken control of my pie-hole.

What’s so alarming about this is all my life, I had always been told,
“Wow, you’re so articulate…You speak so well…You’re such an *eloquent* speaker…”

I’m sure you remember my rant about [The National Spelling Bee and such](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/01/07/neverflix-or-the-dvd-that-almost-was/). I did take pride in not sounding as if my mouth were full of marbles.

But those days are over - unless I move out of Los Angeles - which I don’t foresee happening anytime soon.

I noticed it the other day when I was on the phone with [Laura](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/05/03/dig-this-kahloian-art/). She didn’t catch it, but I noticed immediately that every other word I uttered was none other than, “like.”

“So then, like, he went shopping at Ulta for me and he was, like, so surprised at how great their sale prices were. He had the nerve to bring me, like, four bottles of the same WRONG conditioner, though! I was, like, so pissed. I made him take them all back to the store that same night. Do you think I was being, like, maybe too demanding?”

There are times when I make the conscious decision to omit that non-word from my vocabulary even for one evening outing. But nope - can’t do it. Not when I’m surrounded by “likers” at the party who have been addicted to filler language
 since birth!

I’m really disturbed about this. I, like, don’t know what to do about it.

Like…help?

## [OK, I’ll Say It: Barack Obama is Fine!](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/04/22/ok-ill-say-it-barack-obama-is-good-looking/)

You’ll be happy to know that this is not a post on the most mundane aspects of
The 2008 Election, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, the Iraq war, Bob Cesca, Bob Geiger, Rachel Sklar, Swopa, Alan Dershowitz, Jeff Feldman, Matt Cooper, Lanny Davis,
Marty Kaplan, George Bush (Dubya), GOP Senators, Cheney, Gore, I. Lewis Libby, Taylor Marsh, John Edwards, Thomas de Zengotita…nope, not even
 Arianna Huffington.

I told you before that I have EVERY intention of keeping my political and religious views to myself, and I have made good on that promise.

However, I never vowed to stay silent on what I think about what politicians look like or their personal style!

There is this unspoken thing going around that I can sense, but no one has the nerve to actually come out and SAY it. Well, I do have nerve. It’s my blog and my dime, so…
**Barack Obama is one good-looking man. He really is. The Denzel of politics!**

Look, before anyone gets all up in arms about me lusting after a married man, I am simply observing the obvious, and I think it needs to be said. Good old-fashioned honesty never hurt anyone, did it?

Since I hail from Washington, D.C., I am on political overload. I couldn’t care less what your political perspective is, and I truly don’t want to hear it.

What I *would*be interested in knowing is, how many other women think Barack is cute? He’s always supremely clean-cut, refined, and well-dressed!

His aura just screams **CAPABLE.**

It’s about time we have a handsome, charming President like Barack. I sincerely doubt he would have to use brute force to get his way. People listen to physically attractive people.

With Barack in office, every country may become our ally!

## [Why I Love Los Angeles](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/04/07/why-i-love-los-angeles/)

Posted by GoodLuckDeluxe under

[Random](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/category/random/)

[1 Comment](https://goodluckdeluxe.com/2007/04/07/why-i-love-los-angeles/#comments)

I have been somewhat of a gypsy throughout my life, especially in my twenties. Boy, were those fun times! If I could do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat. **IN A HEARTBEAT.** I regret nothing.

As I have mentioned, I am a walking contradiction, fiercely independent, and the quintessential free spirit.

In my twenties, if I wanted to experience something, I just dove in. There was no armchair observing for me, and no asking others’ opinions on what they thought I ought to do. If I wondered, I went.

It wasn’t enough for me to watch Italian films and drink Valpolicella at home. I was utterly compelled to submerge myself in Italian culture. My life is all the richer for it!

I simply made the decision, learned the basics of the Italian language in a few weeks, packed up my stuff and sold my car, and just went full speed ahead.

I absolutely adored my time in Italy, and love almost everything about the lifestyle and culture. I’m a sucker for luxury, as you know, so to be enveloped in sheer luxuriant brilliance day in, day out…I thought I had died and went to heaven.

Italy is what I imagined heaven to be. You have sexy Italian men making kiss faces at you and cat-calling, “Ciao, bella” at you 24/7, neverending sumptuous food, the finest clothing in the world, breathtaking architecture, romance galore and happy couples making out in public… What’s not to love?!

However, that was before September 11th and all the drama associated with travel and what not. Traveling on a whim was uncomplicated and enjoyable then. Now it’s a headache. I have since lost my traveling mojo.

I needed a final destination in the U.S. in which to put down roots, and I knew that in order for me to be content, it had to be a mini-Italy. Los Angeles is that for me.

Beverly Hills is a hop, skip, and a jump away, the beach in Santa Monica is ridiculously accessible, and we all know there is a heavy emphasis on aesthetics and beauty overall here.

**But what I appreciate most about L.A. is that although some of the people tend to be a hot mess, they don’t try to hide it.**

Here’s the irony…

When I lived in Washington, D.C., the conservatives had their structured 9-5 jobs, they’d commute on the Metro dressed in their Ann Taylor and Brooks Brothers uniforms, they would never dare make eye contact with a stranger, yet they were quick to pass out their business cards and rattle on ad nauseum about which schools they graduated from, what area their home was in, their job title, and other such lame self-importance.

It was all a cover for what was really going on in their lives. Perfect as pie on the outside, but a torrid mess within. They would never divulge that they used a cocktail of
Zoloft, Valium, and Xanax to make it through the day.

I know people love to pick apart Hollywood celebrities and think that they are somehow separate from the rest of humanity, but let me tell you, for every celebrity that has an eating disorder, drug addiction, penchant for promiscuity and the like, I can name more than 20 people “in real life” who are worse.

For those outside of Los Angeles looking in, they imagine L.A. to be this place where everyone is fabulously wealthy, overly self-indulgent (like me, ha!), and that we think we are perfect and wake up every day with the mission to make you believe that we are invincible.

The reality of it is such the contrary, it’s not even funny!

For the most part, people here **WILL TELL YOU** that yeah, although they may own two yachts and a Bentley, they have an addiction they can’t seem to shake, or although they love their spouses, they sometimes feel unsure about their feelings towards them or their deservedness to have them in their lives, etc. I find these folks to be way more open and honest.

This, to me, is more real than that other crap posing as normalcy in the U.S.

Los Angeles is notoriously deemed to be the land of phony baloneys, when my personal experience has been anything but that.

I am truly free to be who I am here. No one bugs me. I can do whatever I want to do without raised eyebrows or questions about my character simply because I don’t fit some rigid Stepford Wife outline.

There is no one way to be in Los Angeles. There are so many mini sub-cultures within L.A. OUTSIDE of the Hollywood scene, and I absolutely love it!

I have worked at the apex of the business side of Hollywood, and I know it well, but believe me when I say it is NOT my bag. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Hollywood is very successful at what it strives to accomplish, but it is NOT Los Angeles. It is but one part of the whole.

You can live in L.A. and not be all “Hollywood.” I am certainly not. I am the least Hollywood-ish person alive!

The weather is great here, there’s always a party going on, people really know how to live it up and celebrate life, and it’s just a great, good, relaxed, fun time.

I’m lovin’ this honeymoon!
